Veseyans picked up a losing bonus point away at Cleobury Mortimer. The home side had the better of the first half scoring two tries, with the first coming from a high up and under, full back Gilly rushed over to cover the ball, the ball bounce up, Cleobury won the race and touched it down, try converted.
Veseyans played some good attacking rugby, whilst going down the right hand side, unfortunately the pass got intercepted by the Cleobury centre, pinned back his ears, he ran towards the V’s 22’ out of know where Matt Johnson the Veseyans hooker hauled him down, but the pass got away to support, Cleobury Mortimer scored and kicked the conversion (14-0).
Veseyans regrouped and played some good rugby, the V’s scrum were dominant all through the match, the ref gave Veseyans a penalty and they kicked to touch deep inside Cleoburys 22.
Lineout was taken by Mitch, the drive preceded all the forwards were involved as they drove Cleobury over their line the whistle went, and last up was Matt Johnson with Gilly converting the extras. The first half was very exciting to watch, Veseyans were constantly putting the pressure on the Cleobury defence, on one occasion the V’s backs were going down the left hand side, they created a 3 v 2, but the final pass did not go to hand. There was a little disagreement which resulted in Veseyans backrower “J.R.G” having a 10 minute break, Cleobury added a penalty. Half time score 17-7.
Second half started with Veseyans putting the pressure on Cleobury Mortimer, they visited the home 22 area on many occasion and scored a well worked try in the corner, “J.R.G.” celebrated with arms pumped into the air, Gilly added the extra two points. Veseyans produced some good rugby with strong drives from the team, unfortunately the final passes not going quite to hand. With another Veseyans player having a 10 minute rest “D.H.”. Cleobury got themselves into the V’s 22 and managed to score in the corner, extras added, (score 24-14.) With a strange decision made by the ref there was another Yellow card shown to centre “M.D.” after asking the ref a question.
Vesyans went through the phases and got themselves deep into Cleoburys 22 with the clock ticking away, V’s were awarded a penalty, which Gilly kicked. Final score was 24-17.
