1st XV MATCH REPORT: Telford Hornets 3 - 43 Veseyans

Veseyans 1st team travelled by coach to Telford along with the 2nd / casuals, Veseyans knew this was going to be a tough match, Veseyans started well with a lineout in their 22 metre line, off the top ball by Mitch was swung out to centre Lewis G who used his pace, beat his defender then sprinted under the posts, a few minutes later, Lewis was a handful for his defenders to “hold” and scored again (14) Matt G added the difference.

Telford came back at the V’s, they tried and tested the solid defence which stood up really well, unfortunately, the ref awarded a penalty which they kicked (3).

The match settled down for a while, however, the ball found no8 Courtney C who attacked the defence, he offloaded to No9 Dan H, who pinned back his ears, after standing up his defender out wide and “swallow dived” to score, Kick went just wide (19). before the 1st half ended, V’s produced some good rugby, forwards went on a rampage with good offloads the ball went down the left, Matt G found no12 Dan L who went out wide to winger Antac P after a few sidesteps the ball found No13 Lewis who broke through, after fixing the Telford (No15) Lewis offloaded to Matt G who crossed out wide, (24).

Second half Telford started well again they put pressure on the V’s defence which stood strong after Veseyans made their (game changers) there were a few lineouts and general play, Veseyan’s used the forwards, LR, DH, CC, JH, JRG and AM, ball went to the backs line, who attacked Telford down the wing, with good retention and carries the ball found winger Antac P who went through the gears and scored out wide (29) conversion just missed.

The ball went through the hands, after a few phases it went out wide and landed into MJ, who backed himself and “cantered” around the last defender to score under the posts, converted by Matt G (36). Telford attacked the V’s and put some good phases together, the V’s defence again put in a great team effort to prevent Telford from scoring, a quick turnover by J.R.G. and the forwards carried the ball back up field, the ball found the unstoppable Lewis G who used his power to burst through the defence and score under the post, converted by Matt G (43), Ref blew his whistle and ended the game, final score Telford 3 – Veseyans 43. (V’s man on the match went to J.R.G. after he put in a great shift.)

(The 2nd team just lost after a gutsy performance.)

A big thank you to Telford and the player who stayed to watch the England V Wales match. Then we had a good “team-building” return journey back to HQ.
