Veseyans were back in league action this time away at Old Salts. With both teams having won 3 out of their 4 league fixtures it was always going to be a close affair.
The afternoon started with the game having to be moved to another pitch with the heavy rain causing parts of Old Salts 1xv pitch to be holding standing water.
With poor weather conditions it was inevitable that mistakes would be made. It what was a cagey affair most of the play was confined to the middle of the pitch. Veseyans broke through a couple of times but Old Salts defence held firm. Then in the 26 minute the Old Salts fullback was shown a yellow card for a no arms tackle; Veseyans took full advantage of the extra man and scored two tries through Matt Gillick and Dan Hemming, Matt converting the latter. These proved to be the only scores of the first half.
In the 2nd half Old Salts started strongly and Vesesyans ill discipline gave their opposition field advantage which resulted in two tries, again one converted making the scores tied. Veseyans managed to correct their indiscipline and started to play rugby again. When the handling errors were cut out and they got to the Old Salts 22, the pressure was too much and penalties were conceded. Matt Gillick managed to slot two of these over. The final 5 mins were played out in Old Salts half but with Veseyans unable to add to the score sheet. Final score 12-18 to the V's. While pleased with the result the team know they have plenty of work-ons before their next league fixture at home to Telford.
