Veseyans 1xv were back in league action this weekend at Uttoxeter, a team sitting in 4th Position in the league. In poor conditions Veseyans kicked off and withstood an early period of home team possession as they went through the phases, but without gaining much territory. V's then managed to get their hands on the ball and after stretching the home defensive worked an opening from Jon Fellows to go over in the corner for the first try of the match on 7mins. The try was converted by Matt Gillick.
Unbeknown at the time this turned out to be the highlight of the match for the V's with large chunks of the match spent defending. Uttoxeter found breaching the try line in the first half difficult but managed to slot over two penalties. This left the half time score 6-7 to the V's. The second half though was one to confine to the rubbish bin as the home side showed more aggression and desire for the ball and made V's defend for large parts of the half. The pressure eventually told on the V's and they conceded 3 tries, one converted and a penalty to lose the game 26-7.
The team will need to regroup quickly as they are back in league action next week away to Willenhall.
