On Saturday 28th September Veseyans 1xv hosted Handsworth in the first home league fixture of the season. Veseyans lost the toss so we asked to play down hill in the first half. The game was an edgy affair to start with Handsworth having dominance in the scrum but Veseyans having the clear ascendancy in open play. This resulted in Veseyans scoring two tries in the first half by Dan Hemming with him converting one.

There could have been more scores for the V's bar for some poor final handling. The second half was much the same but with the slope Handsworth had better territorial advantage but the V's defence stood firm and any handling errors were punished with V's running the ball out up the slope from their own 22. Eventually the away side managed to break a tackle and scamper through to pull a score back. This only spurred V's on as they launched attacks from all over the pitch. Unfortunately the final decision wasn't always the correct one which meant V's left scores in the locker. Eventually though the whitewash was crossed by Ollie Bradley. This was followed closely by a penalty try for a high tackle as Ali Booth was in the process of scoring. Handsworth had the last say with a consolation try however the victory had been sealed 24-14 including a bonus point for 4 tries.
