The game started brightly with Veseyans having the early play with Dean Morris scoring within two minutes following a line break and good interplay between the forwards. The high winds, which would affect the game, prevented the conversion. The visitors responded using the slope and the wind to pen Veseyans back on their try line. Several reset scrums later the referee lost patience with the home team and yellow carded the Veseyans tight head prop. Down to fourteen players, the home team conceded two quick tries, one of which was converted to make the score 17:10 to the visitors. Even back to full strength, the slope, wind and heavier forwards of the visitors kept Veseyans pegged back in their own half. Playing into the strong wind the home team had no choice but to play out. On one such occasion, despite some good play, the Old Salts winger intercepted a pass and ran in for a third try for the visitors. Showing great spirit Veseyans got themselves back into the game with a late first half try from hooker, Matt Johnson which Matt Gillick converted. The score was 22:17 to the visitors at half time.
Old Salts continued to dominate the scrum with their heavier pack and scored early on the second half. Veseyans responded with try from Dariusz Paszkowski to get within 5 points again. But not for long as Old Salts scored again. Whilst the strength had gone from the wind, it was still a factor and Veseyans broke again down the right hand side with flanker, Josh Raby-Gordon carrying strongly, drawing the last defender and passing to Callum Chapman who scored in the far corner. With time running down Old Salts scored again to make it 39:31. With seconds to go Old Salts conceded a penalty within kicking range. Matt Gillick converted and the referee blew for time. A great game to watch and played in good spirit. The final score was 39:34 to the visitors with the home team picking up bonus points.
