A late change of opposition saw the first outing of the new year for the Veseyans 2XV visit Alcester, unbeaten so far in the 2019-20 season.
Veseyans started brightly with good control until a turnover and long kick downfield left the visitors no 8 one on one with a speedy winger. His clearing kick caught the opposition winger full in the face and went dead for a 22 drop out. Good line speed from Veseyans pressurised the home team into throwing a wide intercepted pass which saw Jon Fellows run in for the first of his two tries, the second coming moments later. With tow conversions from debutant Cam Pallister Veseyans were 14 nil up in under twenty minutes. Alcester scored a decent try following a burst of pace from their fly half. Liam Collins then jinked his way through a number of defenders and finished off a 30 metre run to score making it 19-5 at half time.
The second half was played mostly in the Alcester half with Cam Pallister adding a try to his three conversions. He then had to leave the field after sustaining an injury contesting at the breakdown. Jon Fellows stepped up to fly half and confirmed his man of the match performance by executing an outrageous piece of skill with a cross kick the full width of the pitch which bounced once in front of Luke McIntyre for him to score the final try.
The final score was 34-12. A great day out at a very hospitable club.
