Veseyans RFC travelled down the road to Walsall Rugby Club and played the match on the all-weather pitch. Veseyans started well and went through the phases, the forwards put together some good drives towards the try line and crossed with the V’s Captain Adam D getting the try, Jacob H adding the extras.
Walsall got back into the game, after a quarter of an hour they managed to break through and scored in the corner, unfortunately the conversion went wide.
Veseyans got back into Walsall’s 22 metre with some good ball retention it went along the line and found Callum C who ran up towards the try line, he was meet with a good tackle who off loaded to the supporting Andy P and crossed the white wash, Jacob H kicked the extras.
The game was played at high tempo with both sides producing quality rugby, which resulted in huge tackles, Walsall worked their way into the V’s 22 metre however they were meet with a solid defence, with forward drives from Adam D, Ali B, Mat J, J.R.G. and the big frame of Luke R.
Walsall attacked from under their posts after a couple of forward phases the ball went out wide and they managed to break through the line to score under the posts. Score at halftime 17 – 14.
Walsall started the 2nd half well and quickly crashed over the V’s try line, Veseyans made some changes and got back into the game with some fine go forward runs from Simon M, after a couple of phases the ball was given to Big Luke R with 5 metre to the line, he managed to burst through the defence and score, the kick just went wide of the posts.
Walsall came back and scored a well worked try after a quick penalty 29 – 19, this was an evenly matched game with both sides producing good ball retention, Veseyans managed to get the ball out to the backs with good work from ever-impressive Rayarn T and the returning Taylor M the ball found its way to winger Callum C who managed to score out wide in the corner, with a difficult kick towards the post, it was converted by Jacob H. This was a good match played by two very competitive sides.
Final score 29 – 26 to Walsall, the Veseyans man of the match was Lawrence S.
