3rd XV MATCH REPORT: Veseyans 17 - 12 Aldridge

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

The second game of the season for a Veseyan’s team with new players Dave Mears, Ben Cleaves, Alex Westworth all getting back into the game after time away. Aldridge arrived a few players short so the V’s helped even the teams out. Unfortunately, the first half didn’t start well with 2 players from both teams going off within 10 minutes. The most spectacular was Richard Bambrick in his second appearance for Veseyans with a large cut to his face after slightly mistiming a tackle which ended up with a boot in his face and him requiring 13 stitches. Although Veseyans were the better side, with the pack dominating the scrums & backs making yards, they weren’t able to turn this advantage into points and unfortunately, a silly mistake let Aldridge in to take full advantage and score.

HT Veseyans 0 - 7 Aldridge

After a good team talk at half time, Veseyans came out fighting not only understanding what they were missing but also how to put it right.  Aldridge scored early but that was the last they would see of the try line as Veseyans stepped up a gear, an impressive performance from the pack who started to dominate every set-piece, ruck and maul saw a new confidence and belief come across the team. This in turn leading to 3 well-deserved tries by Ben Gilbert, Adam Gibson & Dave Mears. Veseyans kept Aldridge pinned in their own half for the remainder of the match with Mandeep Nijjar making 2 further great attempts at scoring only to be denied a few yards from the try line and in the final phase of the game the pressure forced a penalty under the posts which, unfortunately, Adam Gibson sliced wide of the post.
