COLTS MATCH REPORT: Bromyard 49 - 19 Veseyans

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Selection difficulties meant only 11 colts were available true rugby values from the home side (Bromyard) and a great effort from the available Veseyans Colts allowed the game to be played. 15 minutes of fantastic defence from Vs kept the score line blank but eventually on 17 minutes a drift attack wing overlap gave the hosts a try under the posts.

20 minutes gone and a fantastic try from out loan back row after quick tap penalties and several rumbles from rucks brought us back level as Toby added the 2.

7-7

25th minute - Nathan off injured and 8 minutes later numbers told as Bromyard got two quick converted tries in succession despite brave defence from a tired, stretched Vs. 21-7 down at half time.

Second half saw Vs kick off.

Good defence gave them a penalty that Toby took quick. Debutant Patrick passed out the back to Max on the wing who sprinted 3/4 of the pitch before passing to Thomas to score.

21-12

10 minutes into the second half Max went down and Bromyard again took advantage of the numbers to overlap and score under posts.

45 gone: 28-12 down.

47 - Max back on but Nathan off.

48 - a scrum on the 10 gave Ollie space to attack down the blindside supported by our loaned full back who offloaded back to Ollie, after being stopped on the 5, for a superb, inventive try down the wing. Toby added a tough conversion.

28-19

53 - a quick tap penalty from Vs was knocked on in the centres and the Bromyard winger took advantage to score under the posts.

35-19

55 - a missed tackle in the centres allowed the Bromyard 13 through for another converted try.

42-19

65 - Max succumbed to injury again and Bromyard capitalised on the two man advantage to score in the corner with a great kick keeping the home side 100% off the tee.

49-19

A late break didn’t quite make the line with home 9 getting a yellow for denying the clear try scoring opportunity but no penalty try awarded. However that doesn’t detract from an exceptional performance from a brilliant 11 that showed true rugby spirit alongside Bromyard to whom we offer a big thanks for lending us players to allow the game to go on. Finally, another huge thank you to the referee who was superb this afternoon.

Rugby was the winner today!

MOTM: I’d give it to all 11 if I could! Honourable mentions to Max and Nathan for playing through the pain as well as debutant Patrick but Noah was superb today in attack and defence.
