A much changed and stronger Bourneville side travelled to Vs for an early kick-off last Sunday as the colts hoped to build momentum from their first victory of the season the weekend before in the cup against Telford.
Bourneville, however, started stronger and after winning the toss scored an early try with the wind and the sun on their backs.
An excellent kick-off chase from Vs gave them fresh impetus to fire forward and an extended period of possession and territory looked to have reaped the rewards as Max dived over in the corner. The ref adjudged a knock on though and in the confusion that followed for both sides Bourneville broke to lead by two scores instead of the teams being level.
A disheartened Vs conceded a third try soon after, between the posts, allowing the Bourneville 10 his solitary conversion of the day before regaining their heads and their domination of territory and possession. Again it seemed their hard work would be rewarded but alas this time the man in the middle adjudged the ball to be held up over the line. Again, the colts were caught on the counter as Bourneville reacted better with a try in the corner as Vs tacked their big, ball carriers too high and went in 22-0 down at the break when it could've been oh-so-different.
The colts got together at half time and as the whistle blew they started brilliantly with Bruno finishing off an excellently worked team try with Toby adding the two.
It could've been even better but again the Vs forwards were held up.
A couple of injuries forced Vs to reorganise and tired legs meant more high tackles and 2 unconverted tries for the visitors.
Yet, despite the scoreline Vs refused to give up and even though they were ruled to have been held up a third time Max and Jamie added two more tires, Toby two more conversions and with a few more minutes the final score may have been even closer.
Final score 21-32
An excellent performance in attack but Vs need to be more clinical in the red zone and in D tackles need to be lower.
Next week, we host Worcester in the next round of the cup.
