MATCH REPORT: Veseyans 5 - 22 Kidderminster

Veseyans welcomed Kidderminster on what was a fantastic afternoon for rugby. Both teams started really brightly with the quality of defence the main reason the game was still scoreless after 10 minutes. However, Kidderminster had become camped in Veseyans 22 and from a 5m line-out set a good drive and went over in the corner to take a deserved early lead after 15 minutes.

Veseyans, undeterred, from the kick off put the visitors under extreme pressure which resulted in a penalty and line-out on their 5m line. However, what became the main Achilles heel of the home team throughout the match silly mistakes resulted in the home team conceding possession and Kidderminster exiting there 22 without their line being breached. The game continued to be played at a good pace and with a fantastic attitude from both teams until once again, following some poor decision making by the home team in their own half they conceded 2 quick tries which took the score to 0-17 has it remained up to half time.

The second half started much the same as the first but with Veseyans camping out in the visitors 22. However, once again poor decision making and execution caused them to concede possession and fail to convert the pressure into points. The quality of defence again nullified large parts of the game but in no way did it make it any less enthralling. Finally, from a quick tap penalty in the visitors, 22 Veseyans broke the line and got their first points on the board. The try scorer was Cam Longmore but was excellently assisted by Jack Lees who provided the final drive to force him over the line. As the game was drawing to an end another mistake from an excellent attacking position in the visitors 22 resulted in Kidderminster taking the ball and scoring an unconverted try at the other end to close the match out 5-22.

The intensity and commitment shown by both teams in the second half especially made for an enthralling contest and if Veseyans continue to show the commitment and attitude throughout the season we will quickly grow to become a very good team. Finally, both sets of players should be commended for the spirit in which they played the game and they both represented their respective clubs excellently.....well done to everyone.
