U11 MATCH REPORT: Coalville - Veseyans

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

A strong U11s team travelled to a damp Coalville for their first matches of the year. In heavy conditions the team proved that they have really developed their handling skills and let the ball do more of the work than in previous years.

Even with fast hands and use of width the Vs continued to have committed runners prepared to carry the ball into opposition lines and draw in the defence. Tudor and Paolo in particular both put in huge shifts for the team showing their strength and gaining territory.

With the introduction of kicking, and against a well drilled Coalville side, new skills were on show with Levi and Ben demonstrating safe hands and penetrating counter-running. At the tackle, the V’s continued their strength over the ball with Ella often taking responsibility for digging the ball out and getting it to the wide players who showed great pace despite the mud and standing water on show!

Player of the week was Henry who ran in a hat-trick of tries in the final match and was terrier like in defence throughout.

Whilst the coaching team would still want to work on using our pace and offloading in the tackle they were delighted to be complemented on our tough, but fair, style of play and clear demonstration of the spirit of Rugby. The games ended with smiles all around from (very) muddy but happy players who retired to the clubhouse for a soft drink and a hot dog!

Well done Coalville and the V’s!
