Message from the Chairman

Just a quick note to give everybody an update on what’s happening down at your club in these uncertain times. Rest assured that even though we are unable to play rugby or even train at the moment, we are already busy planning for the next season, both on and off the field.

We have already arranged for the pitches to be re-seeded a month earlier than normal, and the clubhouse is also being completely redecorated as it is currently not available to hire, something that we have wanted to do for a couple of years but it is always booked out for events in the summer!

Even though our club is financially strong, we have and will lose a huge amount of our income streams for the immediate future, not only from Saturday and Sunday bar and café income but also from cancellations for clubhouse bookings lost to April already which will undoubtedly continue into May and beyond until COVID 19 is under control and we can reopen for business.

To this end, we are currently in discussions with the RFU and Sport England to tap into any financial support available to clubs like ours, and we are also looking at all options to reduce the running costs of the club, including payment holidays for business rates and brewery loans, plus we have put a hold on any expenditure other than necessary investment into the fabric of the building and pitches etc.

Now, the good news! We will be making announcements over the next couple of weeks about new coaching appointments, and we are still looking to hold our end of season events later in the year.

Provisionally, the dates we are looking at are as follows, and these will be confirmed as soon as we can definitely do so.

  • Sat 26th September - Ladies Day in the big Marquee

  • Sun 27th September - Mini and Junior Awards, again in the big marquee and this will take place immediately after training to commence at 12.00midday, with a BBQ lunch etc.

  • Fri 2nd October - Annual Business Lunch

  • Sat 3rd October - Late Summer Ball

It is hoped that the senior players club dinner and awards will take place during August, and will take the form of a curry night/BBQ after training on a Thursday night.

For all of you that have already purchased tickets for any of the above events these will still be relevant to the new dates, however should we have to cancel any completely then full refunds will obviously be made available.

Further information and announcements will be made on the club website and social media as soon as available, but In the meantime, I wish all of our players, coaches, parents and staff at Vesyeyans Rugby a safe and healthy summer, and look forward to seeing all of you back down at our club as soon as possible.

Best wishes

Marc Hemingway
